To volunteer for VICSES, all applicants first go through a selection and screening process to ensure they understand the role and can meet the time commitments required for training and performing volunteer duties. All membership applications are subject to an interview and successful background checking.

Local Unit volunteering typically takes place at the closest unit matched to your postcode in your local area. This includes:

Operational response: storm and flood response, responding to incidents
Non-operational roles: community engagement and administration roles.

Regional Unit volunteering takes place at one of our regional support units, based in Geelong, Monash, Bairnsdale, Ballarat, Benalla, Bendigo, and Sunhine. Volunteering at these units focuses on incident management of large-scale events, and administrative support.
